Diabetes month

Writing a blog post a day is more difficult than I thought it would be.  Obviously. I missed yesterday so I won’t make the “post everyday” goal.  I really did not have anything to post though.

Today I will tell you that November is Diabetes Month.  If you have been reading my blog for very long you know that I am passionate about diabetes education and awareness.  Here are a few statistics:

  • Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.
  • Another 79 million Americans have prediabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
  • The American Diabetes Association estimates that the total national cost of diagnosed diabetes in the United States is $245 billion.

Type 2 is talked about quite a bit but there are other kinds of diabetes as well.  What is often called type 1 usually affects children but is found in older people as well.  Diabetes can also be associated with pregnancy.

If you need information about diabetes, visit www.diabetes.org – the website of the American Diabetes Association.  The page contains facts and information about living with diabetes and what to look for as well as recipes and other information.  You can also find contact information for your local office on the page.
