Tomorrow’s agenda – end of 30 weeks

Tomorrow I will try my first 5k since last summer. This week marks 30 weeks since surgery so it is a bit sooner than I anticipated and I know I won’t be able to run the entire course. I started really running again about two weeks ago.  One morning as I walked into spin class I realized it was the day to run so after spin class I went up to the track and ran a quarter of a mile. Not far, but enough.  I’ve been progressing from there and made it 3 miles earlier this week with a combination of running and walking.  This morning I managed a half mile total (1/4, a Sam Morgan workout, 1/4).  My first lap was my fastest lap so far and I think around the time I was pre-injury.  For tomorrow I want to finish the race.  That is basically my goal for the first few races – get them done and get back on track (no pun intended).

In the afternoon I plan on riding in the community ride with Bo Jackson.  Bo Bikes Bama has been going on all week as a fundraiser for the Governor’s Emergency Relief Fund.  Several DCBC members have ridden with Bo this week.  Today Lance Armstrong really did show up to ride with the group. Tomorrow’s ride is about 4 miles from Coleman Coliseum to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater.

My childhood friend Jim Sprague is running his first 5K tomorrow in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Good luck, Jim!

I’ll update after the race.
